Semaphore Scientific is developing a platform of technologies to bring LADAR into ubiquitous use in military and commercial applications. Electrical scanning will afford fast response times, small and lightweight form factors, and a mechanical ruggedness compatible with mobile platform needs. Field of views, ranges, and resolutions will support needs for real-time identification of environmental objects, whether they are UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), munition, or the neighborhood pet crossing the street.
Semaphore generates this opportunity by bringing forward components and systems seen in diverse existing applications, including nanomaterials, lasers, fiber optics, detectors, LADAR, and RADAR. Existing Semaphore designs are proprietary.
The first Semaphore prototypes will be available in 2014.
Why Semaphore?
Current solutions for 3D imaging fall short on range, resolution, reliability, and cost. Semaphore Scientific will modify and improve current technologies through a broad range of inventions and processes. Our system has significant performance and reliability advantage over the current technology with precision and speed.
Mechanically-scanned LADAR does not provide real-time images for mobile platforms applications. Flash illuminated LADAR is the current standard for 3D imaging when fast-frame refresh rates are needed. However, this scheme is expensive and has low range and resolution.
Semaphore is developing proprietary electronically-scanned illuminated LADAR technology to serve the aviation and the automotive markets. Our approach will enable a revolution, allowing pent up demand to turn into a new market.
